Membership of the SCA NZ

You do not have to be a member of the SCA to take part in our activities, though some events may incur a small fee for non-members in addition to any site fees that are payable in order to assist with administrative costs of the society. These are detailed in the section on day membership below.

While membership is not compulsory in order to participate we do encourage regular particpants to become members to assist with the running of the society, provision of insurance, etc and have attempted as much as possible to keep the cost of membership down in order to make this possible for as many people as we can.

Joining the SCA

You can buy a membership from our registrar by filling out a membership form [PDF]. Instructions on filling out and returning the form are included.

Types of membership

There are four classes of membership available: subscribing, family, associate, and event memberships each of which gains you slightly different privileges. All classes of membership with the exception of event membership are valid for one year.

The following table details the priveleges accorded to each membership type and the cost of membership. Please read the detailed descriptions below when deciding what type of membership to purchase. Note that fighting in/winning a crown tournament counts as applying for/holding kingdom office so you need to have an appropriate membership in order to do that.

Event membership
Event membership is for all non-members attending SCA events in New Zealand. The cost of a event membership is $2. This membership lasts for the duration of an event, even if the event spans more than one day. Details of the types of events attract a event membership charge can be found here. Even at events that do not attract a charge for event memberships the relevant paperwork must be filled out.
